Ring in New Year at our January First Friday! We have an amazing artist from Homer, Alaska, music by The Rock Bottom Stompers and great eats for you here at Trax Outdoor Center.

Artist Bio:
M’fanwy Dean is an Artist and Graphic Designer in Homer, Alaska. Born in 1992 in Spruce Pine, North Carolina M’fanwy grew up surrounded by art and animals in a family of Artists, Gardeners, and Sculptors. Aside from 7 months in the summer of ’16 spent in Portland, OR, she has spent the last 17 years living on a farmstead in Homer, Alaska.
During the past two years she has combined her love of storytelling, illustration, and woodcarving. While working in a variety of mediums, her main focus is hand carving intricate details into inked wood panels to create fantastical and illustrative images. Her work has been on display at local galleries, and gift shops across the state, with her piece “Breaching Whale” being selected for publication in the international juried art annual: “Infected by Art: volume 5”
She currently lives in a small cabin in Homer, more than half of which is taken up by studio space with a clear view of the mountains and Kachemak Bay. You can stay updated on her process and new works by visiting her website or following her on instagram:

April First Friday “Flowering Presence” by Cynthia West
Apr 6 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Bonus First Friday! Our April First Friday show, “Flowering Presence” features bright and beautiful blooms by Cynthia West, music by Ken Brown and the Crooked Road and great eats from Trax and Friar Tuck’s Hoagie House. This is our last FF till next season so don’t miss it!

A bit about the artist:
Cynthia’s intent is to transform the gallery into a garden of stillness, form, and color where those visiting can explore their connection with nature and flowers, find stillness and grace though color and form, and find beauty and wonder in the aliveness and silent presence of the flower.
Growing up in interior Alaska, Cynthia has developed a deep connection to nature. This connection is reflected in all she creates. Her creative process is a form of meditation. It allows her to listen, connect and respond with using color, form and light. Her work is fused with this energy. She uses oil paints on canvas to paint large flowers. She chooses the flower images because of their association with spiritual realization and the ease in which they convey joy and peace.
Over the past year she has been creating mandalas from wood. These circular shaped objects are also inspired by nature and often include petal forms and found objects. For her show she will be including both large flower paintings on canvas and mandalas to create unique “Flowering Presence”.

Here in a flowering presence, pause, observe, and nurture the space inside you longing to bloom.
